Bird Eye Chillies (Capsicum frutescens)
Native to very warm climates such as Thailand and Kenya, the famous red bird eye chillies offer a clean and pungent chilli aroma with a spicy, hot flavour. The bird eye plant is perennial; the small red pods with tight green stalks are normally harvested when approximately one inch in length after maturing from green to red.
The little ‘red devil’ is a versatile ingredient, traditionally used to ease arthritis and rheumatism and even touted as a cure for flatulence!
Chillies are ideal for curries and South East Asian cuisine. Chop fresh, or pierce with a pin prior to cooking.
