Oregano (Origanum vulgare)

Often referred to as wild marjoram, oregano is renowned for its full flavour with earthy tones. The herb consists of small oval hairy leaves, varying in colour from dark to light green, sometimes with a silver tinge.

Curiously, it surged in worldwide popularity after WWII as returning American soldiers developed their taste for the classic Italian ingredient nicknamed as the ‘pizza herb’.

The perfect addition to roasted meats and vegetables (and ubiquitous in pizza recipes and southern Italian cooking), it balances the flavours of spicy foods.
